eHealth® Integration for Netcool®

Integration Module for Micromuse Netcool/OMNIbus management enables Netcool operators to access eHealth® Suite reports for integrated historical and real-time content. Netcool users can quickly and automatically access detailed analysis to resolve problems quickly and proactively.

Whether you’re a large enterprise or a service provider, your overworked operations team faces the challenge of “managing the multis.” They have to support multiple services and applications provided over multiple network elements with multiple ways to display fault and performance information. The implications are significant.

A Flood of Alarms

Large networks have tens of thousands—sometimes hundreds of thousands—of devices, from numerous vendors that supply different types of alarms. As operators get bombarded with alarms and events, the “signal-to-noise” ratio plummets, making it more and more difficult to identify critical fault information.

The Need for Information, Not Just Alarms
Operators need more than just an alarm to determine what the trouble is and how to fix it. Operators must also look at historical context to understand the cause of a problem, especially when alarms from different vendors’ equipment are not consistent.

The CA Solution: Integration between Netcool and eHealth® Suite
Many enterprises and service providers use Micromuse Netcool/OMNIbus as their multivendor fault management system. CA’s eHealth® Integration for Netcool provides critical twoway alarm and event communication between eHealth Suite and Netcool, adding value to both industry-leading applications. Through the eHealth Integration for Netcool, operations teams can implement a variety of enhancements to Netcool.

Launching eHealth Suite from Netcool
Operators can launch eHealth Suite’s Trend, At-AGlance, and Live Trend reports on events selected from the Netcool/ OMNIbus event list for further troubleshooting based on historical performance.

eHealth Suite Threshold Violation Notification to Netcool
The eHealth Integration for Netcool enables information from CA’s alarm fine-tuning product, eHealth Live Health™, to proactively alert network operators of potential outages before they occur. By configuring CA’s Live Health to send a trap to Netcool when user defined thresholds are reached, the operations team can react to service issues on networks, systems, or applications, before they degrade performance.

More Effective Troubleshooting
With CA’s eHealth Integration for Netcool, Netcool operators can quickly launch eHealth Suite using the workflow to which they are accustomed.

Problem Notification from eHealth Suite to Netcool
When Live Health thresholds are crossed or eHealth Suite exceptions are identified at report run-time, operators are immediately notified by traps that are sent to Netcool/OMNIbus. These traps automatically make entries in the event log with the appropriate color coding, allowing operators to investigate them using their Netcool procedures.

Communication from Netcool to eHealth Suite

Operators select an event for further troubleshooting and launch eHealth Suite reports from the Netcool event log, preserving their existing workflow. Users can drill back to Trend, At-a-Glance, and LiveTrend reports for more granular analysis of problem conditions.

Benefits

Smarter Traps with Less Noise
Live Health’s ability to provide alarm de-duplication and proactive notification of potential outages reduces the number of Netcool alarms to be handled by the Netcool console.

Complete Problem Investigation
By launching eHealth Suite from the Netcool event log, operators can drill into eHealth Suite reports to diagnose problems. The natural links between Netcool and eHealth Suite enable operators to get the most out of historical and real-time reports with no additional training.

Maintain your Existing Netcool-Based Workflow
This reduces the learning curve for staff and makes the CA eHealth Suite solution easy to adopt for Netcool users.
