eHealth for Voice — Policy Manager
The Policy Manager provides constant monitoring and analysis of all incoming data by user-configurable policies. Automated notification and action plans maintain voice networks at top performance.
You can’t manage what you don’t measure. For voice networks, there have been many obstacles to providing comprehensive, proactive fault and performance management. The challenges revolve around the inability to cast a wide net to collect data from both the network and application layers and, more importantly, to provide the data in standardized and readily available formats.
Today’s voice networks are characterized by heterogeneous solutions that range from large enterprise systems to branch offices. Often, the technology is from multiple vendors and disparate platforms that provide data in various formats. The eHealth® for Voice architecture renders the data into a common format that extends beyond reporting into the realm of service levels, user defined policies, and alarm management.

The Policy Manager dashboard provides a view for monitoring voice Network activity
eHealth for Voice—Policy Manager is a component in the eHealth for Voice product suite that that works in conjunction with the eHealth for Voice polling engine. eHealth for Voice is a multi-vendor, multi-system (PBX and messaging), and multi-technology (TDM and IP) performance management solution that greatly simplifies management of voice networks. It eliminates the manual collection of data and the labor-intensive effort of report compilation and grade of service determination, which translates to improved voice system performance and availability, delivered at a lower cost. Where eHealth for Voice gathers data from many different types of switches (IP and TDM), messaging systems, and other devices, eHealth for Voice—Policy Manager is an application that monitors all data activity and reviews that data against pre-defined criteria.

Self-Initiating Action Plans
eHealth for Voice—Policy Manager initiates Action Plans when user-defined conditions have been met or exceeded. These plans have Operating Intervals, Exclusion Intervals, and other configurable parameters to notify the appropriate resource(s) when conditions have been met or exceeded. You can define the exact escalation steps that should occur—email notification, SNMP alerts to Network Management Systems, third-party scripts and commands, or other actions.
Cross-Platform Normalized Data
Policy Manager furthers CA’s mission to provide multi-platform fault and performance management of the voice network, by establishing a set of data elements in a common information format that reaches across platform boundaries. Now you can effectively measure and track CPU and disk utilization, usage minutes, system grade of service, ports in use, and many other benchmarks across the full spectrum of your voice network. With Policy Manager you can set thresholds on any of these parameters and specify how, where, and when notifications are to be delivered if those thresholds are met or exceeded.
Putting It All Together
With eHealth for Voice collecting data from all components of your voice network, and eHealth for Voice—Policy Manager monitoring that data and providing proactive notification when policies are violated, you have the tools you need to manage your voice network, efficiently, effectively, and at lower cost than ever before. eHealth for Voice’s real-time monitoring and analysis combined with user-configurable policies, notification plans, and action plans keep you on top of voice network performance 24 x 7. eHealth for Voice is a robust management tool that can help you proactively manage your entire voice network. Other eHealth for Voice modules are available to support the Avaya Octel® 250/350, Octel 200/300, Avaya Intuity, and Avaya Modular Messaging platforms, as well as the Avaya Interchange, Communication Manager and Definity, and Nortel Meridian PBX platforms allowing you to integrate system monitoring and reporting for your voice network under a single user console.
